By WUWT regular ?Just The Facts?

During the first crowdsourcing thread for the under construction WUWT Paleoclimate Reference Page, we had a number solid recommendations and WUWT moderator D.B. Stealey dropped a virtual mountain of links into comments here and here. The result is that the original WUWT Paleoclimate Reference Page has more than doubled in size and continues to grow as more comments from the prior crowdsourcing thread are added. Given the large number of additions and the fact that we now have a number of near-duplicate graphs, it seemed prudent to continue this crowdsourcing exercise to gain further input on the validity and value of each and all of the graphs.

There?will likely be at least one more crowdsourcing thread for the?WUWT Paleoclimate Reference Page, in order to assess a number of the currently disputed, questionable and falsified graphs, including Briffa et al., 1998, Jones et al., 1998, Mann et al., 1998, Pollack et al., 1998, Jones et al., 1998, Mann et al., 1999, Mann et al., 2000, Briffa et al., 2001, Esper et al., 2002 and Jones and Mann 2004, AR4 section 6.6.1.1 2007 and Marcott et al. 2013. Note that two (1, 2) of the graphs currently on the Paleoclimate page have a Disputed label, as per this comment and Alley?s own graph, the x axis label should read Years Before Present (1950 AD) not (2000 AD)

However, disputes aside, a gigantic thank you to D.B. Stealey, and all of those who have contributed to the WUWT Paleoclimate Reference Page. The following are some of the new additions to the WUWT Paleoclimate Reference Page:

Ind. blast suspect charged in plot to kill witness

INDIANAPOLIS (AP) ? An Indianapolis man facing trial in a house explosion that killed two people and damaged or destroyed dozens of homes was charged Thursday with plotting to have a witness in the case killed.

Marion County Prosecutor Terry Curry announced Mark Leonard had been charged with one count of conspiracy to commit murder during a news conference in downtown Indianapolis.

Curry said Leonard tried to arrange to have the witness killed for a payment of $15,000. Curry said Leonard also offered a $5,000 bonus if the killing was made to look like a suicide and if the killer could force the witness to first call 911 and recant statements about the explosion.

Leonard, girlfriend Monserrate Shirley and brother Bob Leonard are awaiting trial in the Nov. 10 blast that killed a teacher and her husband, and left 33 homes in the Richmond Hill subdivision so damaged that they had to be demolished.

Investigators say the trio intentionally created a gas explosion in Shirley's home in hopes of collecting insurance money. A microwave set to start on a timer sparked the explosion in Shirley's gas-filled home after a gas fireplace valve and a gas line regulator in the house were removed.

John and Jennifer Longworth died after the explosion ignited another explosion and resulting fire at their house.

All three defendants face murder, arson and conspiracy charges. Shirley also is charged with insurance fraud.

Curry said in February he would see life without parole for Shirley and the Leonards because a jury was unlikely to choose the death penalty.

Microsoft: jQuery 2.0 Will Add Full Support For Windows Store Apps

3007.jQueryonWinRT_196B064BThe next version of jQuery, the popular JavaScript library, will drop support for Internet Explorer 6, 7, and 8, but that doesn’t mean Microsoft isn’t very bullish about getting developers to use jQuery 2.0 and HTML5 to develop “a new wave of jQuery-based Windows Store applications.” As Microsoft announced today, Microsoft Open Technologies, the company’s wholly owned open source-focused subsidiary, and the JavaScript experts at appendTo, have been working with the jQuery community to ensure that the next version of the framework offers full support for Windows Store applications. Developers could obviously already build Windows Store/Metro apps with jQuery, but thanks to this cooperation, the process for developing jQuery 2.0-based Windows Store applications should now be smoother, safer and more streamlined. As appendTo’s director of support Jonathan Sampson wrote in today’s announcement, jQuery always met the language criteria for Windows Store applications, but “Windows 8 exposes all the WinRT APIs within the HTML5 development environment, which comes with a new security model that made some code and common practices of jQuery flagged as unsafe in the context of a Windows Store application. AppendTo reviewed and re-authored portions of jQuery core to bring it into alignment with the Windows security model, as well as identified key areas where alternative patterns would need to be substituted for actually-used conventions.? Even though Microsoft has always stressed this in the run-up to the Windows 8 launch, quite a few developers are still unaware that they can use their web development skills to write desktop apps for Windows 8 and Windows RT. Developers, by the way, can already use a number of other open-source JavaScript frameworks, including backbone.js, Knockout.JS and YUI. As Deve Methvin, the president of the jQuery Foundation noted in a prepared statement today, that’s also something his organization is interested in. ?The jQuery team is excited about the new environments where jQuery 2.0 can be used. HTML and JavaScript developers want to take their jQuery knowledge with them to streamline the development process wherever they work. jQuery 2.0 gives them the ability to do that in Windows 8 Store applications. We appreciate the help from appendTo for both its patches and testing of jQuery 2.0 and MS Open Tech for its technical support.?

AP Interview: Egypt says Iranian tourists no risk

CAIRO (AP) ? Egypt's tourism minister says Iranian tourists would help shore up Egypt's dilapidated tourism industry and would not pose security challenge to the nation.

Speaking to The Associated Press in Cairo on Thursday, Hesham Zazou says he does not worry that visiting Iranians would try to export a revolution to Egypt.

Preparations are under way to allow Iranian tourists visit at a time when the Egyptian government is looking to boost the tourism business back to pre-revolution levels when 14.7 million tourists visited Egypt in 2010.

Continued unrest since the 2011 uprising that forced longtime authoritarian president Hosni Mubarak to step down, have scared away tourists and investment.

Last year, the number of tourists climbed to more than 10 million, but most tourists go to beach resorts along the Red Sea.

iCloud gets kicked in the Core Data sync -- totally had it coming

iCloud gets kicked in the Core Data sync -- totally had it coming

iCloud, specifically the part of it that covers the frameworks Apple has provided to developers to sync Core Data databases, has been getting kicked around lately, and by almost all accounts, deservedly so.Back in November, developers like Instacast's Vemedio and Steve Streza of Informal Protocol posted about its opacity and Paul Haddad expressed on similar concerns during the second episode of Debug. More even than ensuring the reliability of Siri and Game Center, it felt like proof positive that Apple faced significant challenge in a future where services were table-stakes.

As much as I think iOS 7 and iCloud are more important for Apple than next-generation hardware at this point, I think iCloud is more important than iOS 7 because, for Apple, it'll be an even bigger challenge. iCloud, more so even that Dropbox, is the future, it just doesn't work yet.

Since those initial developer posts, more have have come forward to share their experiences with iCloud Core Data sync, or in some cases document sync, and they share the same frustrations.

In a post intended to reassure users of NetNewsWire about the app's future in a post-Google Reader world, iCloud issues again reared their ugly head. Daniel Pasco of(BlackPixel](http://blackpixel.com/blog/2013/03/the-return-of-netnewswire.html) wrote:

As far as sync is concerned, we knew we would likely need an alternative to Google Reader as early as last year. At the time, the option that seemed to make the most sense was to embrace iCloud and Core Data as the new sync solution of choice. We spent a considerable amount of time on this effort, but iCloud and Core Data syncing had issues that we simply could not resolve.

What seems to make the ongoing issues so vexing for developers is that iCloud was introduced with iOS 5 back in 2011, and while iOS 6 in 2012 was an improvement, it wasn't anywhere nearly improvement enough.

Ellis Hamburger of The Verge did a brilliant job summing up much of the reaction and reasoning up, calling iCloud Core Data sync a broken promise:

Many veteran developers have learned their lesson and given up on iCloud?s Core Data syncing entirely. "Ultimately, when we looked at iCloud + Core Data for [our app], it was a total no-go as nothing would have worked," said one best-selling iPhone and Mac developer. "Some issues with iCloud Core Data are theoretically unsolvable (stemming from the fact that you?ve put an object model on top of a distributed data store) and others are just plain bugs in the implementation," he said.

One of the reasons for this is that, just like with Game Center APIs, Apple has very little skin in the Core Data sync game. They're not making massive use of it, so they're not the first ones hitting pain points and problems. Their developers are, and that's a terrible, terrible thing for everyone.

Matthew Panzarino of The Next Web also pointed out that Apple conflating several distinct services all under the iCloud banner further compounds the problem developers face:

Recent criticism of Apple?s iCloud has exposed just how fractured the brand actually is behind the scenes. Developers are having problems with some of the technologies bundled together under the name and it?s causing some confusion. The truth of the matter is that there are really two iClouds, which couldn?t be more different.

Users who get their mail, contacts, or calendars synched without issue just don't understand what developers are complaining about because, for them, iCloud works, it just doesn't work in that developer's app. Some users think the developers are actually incompetent or lying.

Glassboard developer Brent Simmons, on Inessential, pointed out that that's the risk of depending on systems you can't control:

How comfortable are you with outsourcing half your app to another company? The answer should be: not at all comfortable.

Just like services are the future for Apple, they're the future for a lot of developers. More important than hardware, arguably more important than software when that is already a core competency, iCloud is what Apple has to nail. Rather than getting kicked around, iCloud has to kick ass.

Internet Advertising Companies - Evolution of Social Media and ...

A Unique Method of Advertising

Internet advertising made up 9 percent of all advertising in the United States in 2012. This market share will tend to increase in the following years as more advertisers shift and increase their spending on online technologies. This Internet advertising expansion is transforming the advertising business landscape by offering more effective methods of connecting advertisers and potential clients. At the same time, it is a revenue source for online media companies that face stiffer competition from traditional firms.

Online Advertisers

Internet advertising companies are devoted to creating advertising content for business clients. They also deal with every aspect of their clients? online campaign from a full-scale online advertising campaign with search engine optimization, sponsorships and e-mail advertising to just simple ad banners. Some of these Internet advertising companies do not have a physical location where they can meet their clients in person. They work with their customers through the phone, email and fax. Some online advertising providers are set up like traditional agency companies where they meet with customers and create online advertisement campaigns.

Separating the Best from the Rest

In order to be the best in this business, an Internet advertising company must always keep up with changing business relationships and economic structures. The business world of online advertising moves at a lightning speed. In order to stay ahead of their competitors, a successful Internet advertising company must know the rules of advertising and how to adapt these policies to the different demands of the online world.

The utilization of Internet advertising is expected to increase each year. Although this is evidence of its success, it also means that competition among companies is growing every year. When advertising online, there is a great potential to reach targeted consumer groups with ease. However, there is also the possibility to disappear in a sea of competing similar ads.

In order to avoid this, an Internet advertising company must be different. The most effective and efficient Internet advertising providers are those that think outside the box even though they are guided by a sound marketing strategy. This is a very delicate balance and one that needs sufficient online advertising experience. This knowledge can be used in fully utilizing the hidden potential of new media formats that helps ads be truly unique online. These companies also work hard to provide a full spectrum of online advertising services.

Online Advertising Concepts and Methods

Online advertising has been growing every year since it started in 1994. A lot of advertisers have been made aware of the growth and potential of this media form. One of its advantages is that consumers have the power to choose what ads they want to see.

There are a lot of Internet advertising methods that are used by online advertising companies in the world today. Content advertising is one of the most popular Internet advertising concepts that many companies utilize. This involves creating online content to draw the attention of a website?s visitors. This is the primary advertising technique that is used on the Internet because the Internet itself is composed of information or content.

Link Advertising

Another of the Internet advertising concepts commonly used today is link advertising. This involves placing a link with a short description to attract users to a particular website. The most important factor in link advertising is the offer. A lot of advertisers expect people to click on any link they post. Those who do not see success wonder why people are not responding if no one clicks. Basically, people are not interested in the ad itself.?What interest them are the benefits that they will get from that ad. People will not click if an ad fails to express the idea that a benefit is waiting for them.

Viral Advertising

Viral advertising is an Internet advertising concept that is similar to word of mouth advertising. The key point is to encourage more traffic to come to a company?s website. It involves the use of methods such as viral software, eBooks and screensaver distribution, putting a tell-a-friend note on a webpage and offering an affiliate program for products and services. Success in this Internet advertising method depends on the ability to stir a buzz in an online community. A merchandiser must present their product as something interesting and unique so that potential clients help spread the word.

Incentivized Advertising

This advertising method utilizes shifting traffic to visit a website. It involves different approaches such as auto-surf advertising, safelist advertising, paid to read advertising and traffic exchange programs. Being successful in this advertising approach depends on the offer and how the seller presents it. Many advertisers who fail either do to deliver the results that they have promised or do not have a good offer.

Obtrusive Advertising

This kind of advertising forces online traffic to view an advertisement. Common examples include popunder advertising and popups. The most important rule here is to avoid untargeted traffic. Showing an ad to the wrong people is just a waste of time. Targeting the correct consumer group is not only the basis for success when using this technique. It also depends on the offer presented and the way it it?s presented. In this way, it is one of the Internet advertising methods that are similar to incentivized advertising.

Unique mechanisms of antibiotic resistance identified

Mar. 26, 2013 ? As public health authorities across the globe grapple with the growing problem of antibiotic resistance, Tufts University School of Medicine microbiologists and colleagues have identified the unique resistance mechanisms of a clinical isolate of E. coli resistant to carbapenems. Carbapenems are a class of antibiotics used as a last resort for the treatment of disease-causing bacteria, including E. coli and Klebsiella pneumonia, which can cause serious illness and even death. Infections involving resistant strains fail to respond to antibiotic treatments, which can lead to prolonged illness and greater risk of death, as well as significant public health challenges due to increased transmission of infection.

The study, published in the April issue of Antimicrobial Agents and Chemotherapy, demonstrates the lengths to which bacteria will go to become resistant to antibiotics.

Resistance to carbapenems usually emerges through the acquisition of an enzyme, carbapenemase, which destroys the antibiotic intended to treat infection. Resistance may also block entry of the drug into the E-coli bacteria. The current research, led by corresponding author Stuart Levy, M.D., Professor of Molecular Biology & Microbiology and of Medicine and Director of the Center for Adaptation Genetics & Drug Resistance at Tufts University School of Medicine, sought to determine what made this particular clinical isolate of E. coli resistant to carbapenem in the absence of carbapenemase.

"The Centers for Disease Control and Prevention has documented a significant increase in Carbapenem-resistant Enterobacteriaceae (CRE) -- so-called 'super bugs' that have been found to fight off even the most potent treatments," Levy said. "We knew that bacteria could resist carbapenems, but we had never before seen E. coli adapt so extensively to defeat an antibiotic. Our research shows just how far bacteria will go with mutations in order to survive."

Levy and his colleagues determined that the E. coli genetically mutated four separate times in order to resist carbapenems. Specifically, the isolate removed two membrane proteins in order to prevent antibiotics from getting into the cell. The bacteria also carried a mutation of the regulatory protein marR, which controls how bacteria react in the presence of antibiotics. The isolate further achieved resistance by increasing expression of a multidrug efflux pump. Moreover, the researchers discovered that the E. coli was expressing a new protein, called yedS, which helped the drug enter the cell, but whose expression was curtailed by the marR mutation. yedS is a normally inactive protein acquired by some E. coli that affects how the drug enters the bacterial cell. It is generally expressed in bacteria through a mutation.

According to the Centers for Disease Control and Prevention, CRE germs have increased from 1% to 4% in the United States over the last decade. Forty-two states report having identified at least one patient with one type of CRE. Approximately 18% of long-term acute care hospitals in the United States and 4% of short-stay hospitals reported at least one CRE infection in the first half of 2012.

The clinical isolate of E. coli studied by Levy and his colleagues came from the sputum of a patient at Peking Union Medical College Hospital in Beijing, China, where three of the study authors are on the faculty. Drug resistance is a particularly serious public health concern in China, antibiotics are overprescribed and used widely in the livestock and farming industries.

"The first quinolone-resistant strains of bacteria came out of China, where we see that the drugs of last resort begin being used, because the other drugs don't work after so much overuse," Levy said.

Additional authors of the paper are Doug Warner, Director of Undergraduate Laboratories, Boston College; Qiwen Yang, Section Director of Clinical Microbiology, Department of Clinical Laboratory, Peking Union Medical College Hospital; Valerie Duval, Research Assistant at Tufts University Center for Adaptation Genetics and Drug Resistance; Minjun Chen, Professor of Clinical Microbiology, Peking Union Medical College Hospital; and Yingchun Xu, Chair, Department of Laboratory Medicine, Peking Union Medical College Hospital.

Research reported in this publication was supported by the National Institute of Allergies and Infectious Diseases of the National Institutes of Health under award number R01AI56021.

France confirms death of Al-Qaida chief Abou Zeid

(AP) ? The death of a top al-Qaida-linked warlord in combat with French-led troops represents a victory in the battle against jihadists who had a stranglehold on northern Mali. But it is far from the defining blow against a wily enemy that can go underground and regroup to renew itself. Even the fearsome Abou Zeid is replaceable.

A top commander of al-Qaida in the Islamic Maghreb, Abou Zeid had been in the crosshairs of the French military and their African partners since they moved in to Mali on Jan. 11 to rout radicals seen as a threat to northwest Africa and to Europe. An announcement Saturday by the French president's office that Abou Zeid's death in late February has been "definitively confirmed" ends weeks of speculation about his fate.

Abdelhamid Abou Zeid, an Algerian thought to be 47, was a pillar of al-Qaida in the Islamic Maghreb's southern realm, responsible for the death of at least two European hostages and a leader of the extremist takeover of northern Mali, which followed a coup d'etat a year ago. He joined a succession of radical insurgency movements in Algeria starting in the early 1990s and became known for his brutality and involvement in high-profile hostage-taking.

President Francois Hollande's office said the death of Abou Zeid "marks an important step in the fight against terrorism in the Sahel," the borderlands where the Sahara meets the sub-Saharan jungle, encompassing several nations where radicals are on the rise.

French officials have maintained for weeks that the Abou Zeid was "probably" dead but waited to conduct DNA tests to verify.

But jihadists have shown again and again that they can overcome the death of individual warlords. Even French Defense Minister Jean-Yves Le Drian has said that eliminating leaders "doesn't solve everything."

"It's the entire structure that has to be put down and not this or that leader," he said in an interview with Le Monde earlier this month.

Al-Qaida rebounded after commanders in Iraq and Afghanistan were killed. Leaders of jihadist movements in Algeria that gave birth to al-Qaida in the Islamic Maghreb, known as AQIM, were killed and seamlessly replaced. The top AQIM leader in Mali, with the title Emir of the Grand Sahara, Nabil Makloufi, was quickly replaced after being killed last fall in a road accident, according to Matthieu Guidere, an expert on radical Islam who monitors AQIM and other jihadist movements. The new top emir, Yahya El-Hammam, could now step into Abou Zeid's warlord role, according to one scenario.

Abou Zeid was killed in operations in the Adrar des Ifoghas mountains in Mali's far north, the French statement said. The area where mountains meet the desert was Abou Zeid's stronghold ? and thought to be where he was keeping four French hostages captured two years ago at a uranium mine in Niger. Their fate is unclear.

The French military says the French-led forces have killed hundreds of extremist fighters in the two-month campaign in Mali, and French officials say they have cornered the al-Qaida-linked groups in a patch of northern mountains.

However, even a clear military success by the French and their African partners in Mali would not guarantee that AQIM will die.

While based in northern Algeria, it has proven extremely mobile, latching on to political instability in the region and arming itself with weapons from Libya. AQIM has seeded ties with other radical Islamic movements like the violent Boko Haram in Nigeria. Last week, AQIM put out a call to jihadists throughout northern Africa to join the fronts in Mali and Algeria ? or to stay home, and wage a war of preaching in countries like Tunisia or Morocco to turn the tide against "secularists," according to the SITE Intel Group which monitors jihadist statements.

Interviews with a series of experts on AQIM and other jihadist groups all suggest that a military victory is not the definitive answer to snuffing out jihadist terror, which can change form, move on to new theaters of operation or reignite if the instability it breeds on is not eliminated, too.

"The problem doesn't go away by eliminating terrorists," Sajjan Gokel of the London-based Asia-Pacific Foundation said in a recent interview. "For every terrorist captured or killed there are at least five other terrorists coming down the assembly line."

One analyst suggested that Abou Zeid's death may lead to greater unity among the various al-Qaida-linked factions.

Jean-Paul Rouiller, director of the Geneva Center for Training and Analysis of Terrorism, describes AQIM's organization as a set of insulated cells under the larger al-Qaida umbrella, which existed independently of each other. The region of Mali ? known in the group's parlance as the "emirate of the Sahara" ? was divided between units loyal to Abou Zeid and those loyal to his arch-rival Moktar Belmoktar, who led an attack on a gas plant in Algeria in January that left dozens of foreign hostages dead.

Rouiller said El-Hammam will likely take over control of Abou Zeid's katibat, or brigade. He said it was Hammam who had acted as the go-between when Abou Zeid wanted to communicate with Belmoktar.

"Especially if Hammam takes over, there could be a chance for a better coordinated relationship with Moktar Belmoktar," said Rouiller. "I would not be surprised if we see a more united Saharan emirate."

Chad's government claimed that Belmoktar was also killed in fighting in northern Mali, but the claim has not been independently verified.

Mystery surrounds the powerful and shadowy figure of Abou Zeid, even regarding his real name. Along with his nom de guerre, Abou Zeid had an alias, Mosab Abdelouadoud, and nicknames, the emir of Timbuktu, the fabled city that became his fief during the 10-month-long occupation of Mali, and the little emir, due to his diminutive size. But the Algerian press has raised questions about his legal identity ? Abid Hamadou or Mohamed Ghedir.

He was viewed as a disciplined radical with close ties to the overall AQIM boss, Abdelmalek Droukdel, who oversees operations from his post in northern Algeria.

Abou Zeid fought with a succession of Islamist insurgency movements trying to topple the Algerian state since 1992. He reportedly joined the brutal, and now defunct, Armed Islamic Group that massacred whole villages in northern Algeria, then joined the Salafist Group for Call and Combat that morphed into al-Qaida in the Islamic Maghreb in 2006 under Droukdel's rule.

An Algerian court tried him in absentia in January 2012, convicting him of belonging to an international terrorist group and sentencing him to life in prison.

Abou Zeid was believed to be the most brutal of the top jihadist leaders in Mali. He held a Frenchman who was executed in July 2010. He's also been linked to the execution of a British hostage in 2009.

In the Sahara, Abou Zeid's reputation for brutality toward hostages outdid that of Belmoktar, who in general allowed the foreigners in his care to receive medicine when needed. Rouiller says that an analysis done by his center of proof-of-life videos released by al-Qaida in the Islamic Maghreb suggests that Hammam and another jihadist commander, Targui, are just as brutal toward hostages as was Abou Zeid.

"Based upon the analysis of the video sequences, I don't think either Hammam or Targui are more humane ? the line will not change."

Al-Qaida affiliate claims Iraq ministry assault

(AP) ? An al-Qaida-affiliated group in Iraq has claimed responsibility for a carefully planned assault on the Justice Ministry in downtown Baghdad last week. The attack, involving car bombs and gunmen disguised as police, killed at least 24 people.

In a statement posted online on Sunday, the Islamic State of Iraq said the "blessed raid" was "vengeance for the Sunni women" held in the prisons of the Shiite-led government. It described the ministry building as a "tool to fight, terrorize, jail, torture and kill Sunnis."

The Thursday attack in downtown Baghdad came less than a week before the 10th anniversary of the U.S.-led invasion of Iraq, showing how vulnerable this country remains to insurgent attacks.

The Law You Don't Want To Break - Abundance And Prosperity

What is abundance and prosperity for you? Is it the bed fellow of the man that speeds by in his luxury car? You look at their jet setting lifestyle and you think, why do all the breaks happen to them and not to me? I can tell you right now it's because of what you just said. That is having a poor man mindset. You will find in this article how changing the way you think can change your life. A good life is not only for the select few, it's for you.

Let us define abundance. Abundance is an overflowing fullness of supply in every area in our lives. When you are amply supplied with more than you need, you are indeed prosperous. Do not ever think this is reserved only for the elite and intelligent because it's not. If you desire it and are willing to do what it takes; then you too can have a life that overflows.

Did you ever stop to consider that despite its 'age', the universe continues to grow in proportions incalculable to man's sophisticated tools? How about nature with the constant evolution of its plant and animal species? This is the law of abundance at work. Even if resources seem to be running out, there is always, always more than there is lack.

Your mind determines the fate of your prosperity. Remember, the world keeps churning out vast resources of wealth and you have to make it your occupation to realize this. Your perspective will either help you or fail you here. If you see all the things you do not have and look at the world as a limited center for riches--then you may never move out of your state in life. Conversely, if you choose to think positive no matter what and open yourself up for opportunities available in the world; then you can soon take your place with the great ones on earth.

What energy are you drawing to yourself? If there is a lack in your life, investigate the preexisting thoughts you have regarding that matter. If you think every virus that there ever was will be coming to get you; surprise, you will be sick a lot of times. This doesn't mean throw away your doctor's card if you are actually sick-positive thinking (emphasis on the latter word) and reasonable prudence is a wise way to live. Make a choice to focus on good things and do your best to work out whatever else that needs to be done.

The thoughts you have are more than insubstantial daydreams that you engage in to pass time. It is powerful and highly charged. Think about prayer. This act involves your heart, mind and spirit to bring to pass your life's desires. The law of abundance operates by receiving these 'vibrations' from your inner man to the physical world, commanding the manifestation to appear. Use this tool to your advantage and you will discover the results will prove it true.

Remember, your needs and desires are valid and it is part of being alive. The good news is provision has already been made for you. There is only a decision you need to make today: go on your life like the rest of the world; or dare to aim for abundance and prosperity and live a full life because of it. It's not that hard really, choose the latter and you will never regret it.

TT$1.8b loan from China for Trinidad health, sport centres ...

(Trinidad Express) THE construction of a number of local sporting and health facilities with a TT$1.8 billion loan from China will employ at least 50 per cent local labour and materials in most aspects, Housing Minister Dr Roodal Moonilal said yesterday.

Trinidad and Tobago has entered into the loan agreement with China Exim Bank, an export/import financial institution which in 2011 offered over TT$6.3 billion in loans to the region in an effort to deepen its ties with the Caribbean.

Work has already begun on some phases of the country-wide project, which will include the George Bovell III Aquatic Centre, a cycling velodrome, a tennis centre, three multi-purpose sporting facilities and the Children?s Hospital at Couva.

The Aquatic Centre and cycling velodrome will share a compound with the Ato Boldon Stadium at Couva, which is also set for refurbishment. Earthworks are about 40 per cent complete on the compound of the stadium.

Moonilal, asked about the People?s Partnership?s previous declarations that it would avoid the use of foreign and Chinese expertise and labour, said a clause has been entered into Government?s contracts with the Chinese that stipulated the use of at least 50 per cent local content.

The work being carried out at this time was being done by local contractors, Moonilal said, adding that as far as he was aware the stipulations applied to the Children?s Hospital.

Finance Minister Larry Howai, also speaking at a signing of the loan agreement yesterday at the Hilton Trinidad, St Ann?s, said sufficient financial returns were expected on the projects and disbursements for the loan will end in early 2015.

Sport Minister Anil Roberts said he could extol the social benefits the sporting centres would have, but instead chose to focus on the business aspect.

The returns justified the project and his ministry aimed to create economic ?growth poles? through sport, he said.

The aquatic centre was long promised, as were some of the other sporting facilities. The project would also employ hundreds of locals during and after construction, Roberts added.

Also present was outgoing Chinese Ambassador to Trinidad and Tobago Yang Youming, who described the project as yet another bond between the countries.

3D Printing Goes Mainstream liveblog

3D printers might one day be as common as inkjets, letting you conjure up plastic visions of whatever pops into your head. At least, that's the vision of its promoters and there's now a wide variety of models and form factors in the market ranging from sub-$1,000 price tags up to $3-4k for more sophisticated systems. But despite the obvious utility for designers, prototypers and the like, will less demanding users warm to the tech? Join moderator Brian Heater for a discussion of 3D printing's future with Hod Lipson, Professor of Engineering, Cornell University; Max Lobovsky, Co-Founder, FormLabs; and Avi Reichental, President & CEO, 3D Systems.

How a Martian mountain would look on Earth

NASA / JPL-Caltech / MSSS

This mosaic of images from the Mast Camera (Mastcam) on NASA's Mars rover Curiosity shows Mount Sharp, also known as Aeolis Mons, in a white-balanced color adjustment that makes the sky look overly blue but shows the terrain as if under Earthlike lighting. This is just a small segment of a wider panorama assembled from image data collected on Sept. 20, 2012. The sky has been filled out by extrapolating color and brightness information from the portions of the sky that were captured in images of the terrain. A raw-color version of the mosaic shows the scene's colors as they would look in a typical smartphone camera photo taken on Mars. Click on the image to see a larger version from NASA.

By Alan Boyle, Science Editor, NBC News

If you could pull up a 3-mile-high mountain from Mars and plop it down in California's Mojave Desert, it'd probably look much like this latest color panorama from the Curiosity rover's science team. This little piece from the panorama doesn't do justice to the whole picture: You really should see the whole thing at high resolution to get a sense of just how much Mount Sharp, a.k.a. Aeolis Mons, looms over the scene where NASA's six-wheeled robotic lab has been working.

The most jarring thing about the picture is the blue sky. No, the Martian sky doesn't really look like that. The Red Planet's atmosphere is filled with iron-rich dust that turns everything into shades of butterscotch, burnt orange and brick. To see Mount Sharp as you or your smartphone camera might see it if you were actually there, check out this true-color version of the panorama.

The blue-sky version has been processed to reflect a white-balanced view, as if the picture were taken in an earthly rather than a Martian setting. Why would scientists bother with a phony view of Mars? "White-balancing helps scientists recognize rock materials based on their experience looking at rocks on Earth," NASA's Jet Propulsion Laboratory explains in?Friday's photo advisory. It's as if Curiosity was able to get rid of all that red dust in the air and take a clear picture of the mountainside from miles away.

The pictures for this panorama was taken in September, while the rover was en route to its first destination. For the past couple of months, Curiosity has been studying the rocks at a site known as Yellowknife Bay, and it's already turned up some amazing discoveries about Mars' past?? including evidence that the area was capable of supporting microbial life billions of years ago.

Within the next couple of months, Curiosity is due to turn around and begin its 6-mile (10-kilometer) trek to the foothills of that big mountain. Pictures like this panorama will help scientists figure out exactly where their nuclear-powered robotic geologist should be going.

Trace the Curiosity rover's journey to Mars and see the pictures that the six-wheeled robot has sent back from the Red Planet.
