ATLANTA (AP) - Members and leaders of the Southern Christian Leadership Conference are calling for the immediate reinstatement of the civil rights organization's former president. The group says the SCLC board dismissed Isaac Farris without any input from chapter presidents.

In a statement issued Friday, the group says a recent attempt to discuss the matter was ignored. The members and leaders plan to meet next week to vote on whether to ask a judge to intervene. They say the national office makes decisions unilaterally and is dishonest about its struggle with finances.

The venerated civil rights organization, co-founded by the Rev. Martin Luther King Jr. in 1957, has been plagued by infighting and accusations of financial mismanagement. The group is expected to address the issue publicly on Monday.
