is-it-a-bad-time-to-become-a-realtor - Rock-n-Roll Real Estate Agent

questions

Q: I am looking into a career change. At the moment with zero experience, I would like to get my license and look further into the Keller Williams program. I am a mother of two, so an online course would work best. I have a few questions.

(1) Does anyone have experience with online courses and maybe some recommendations; (2) any experience, pros and/or cons with Keller Williams; and (3) is it a bad time to get into real estate now (2012). Any thoughts, information, links, experience are greatly appreciated!

A: Dear Career Change!!

Wow, what an exciting step. I remember when I first thought about leaving the hospitality industry to step into the shoes of a Realtor. I would say now is as good of time as any to lightly tread into the waters or jump in head first. This is a great industry and a great career move, but don?t be fooled by the what is perceived as a glamorous lifestyle or quick get-rich attitude, it is far from that. Keller Williams is a great company to be a part of as well, however you should still interview several companies to make sure your fit is one that best suits all parties. I would suggest you take the courses and get your license first. Once licensed work with some experienced agents because schooling is just the beginning and most of the time you are just learning terms and specific points of the contracts for your state. The real fun of marketing, lead generation and lead conversion only come with time and experience. The paycheck comes much much later. Good luck and here?s to your success in real estate.

A: I would interview a few different Brokers before you commit to one company. Every office and/or company has its own personality and way of doing business. I take most of my classes at a local school. In class, you can interact with others and start building your network. If you depend only on your income from sales, I may suggest you get the facts on becoming an agent. I took a national training class on real estate where we did our budget for the first year of being an agent including your personal bills. It is over $18,000-36k for frugal minded people?I suspect your budget will be higher in SoCal.
